CommTraffic® Tutorial
    Traffic Accounting Made Easy

Customizing the Look

It can have many faces!

If you don't like standard-looking applications, this chapter is for you; otherwise, you can just skip it.

CommTraffic has two types of the graphical user interface (GUI). By default, the standard interface with the View pane on the left side of the ToolBox window is activated. This is a good choice for frequent and/or professional users, e.g. office network administrators. If you prefer fancy interfaces, click View => Alternate Interface in the main menu, and the side bar with convenient, big buttons will appear on the left side of the window to give you easy access to different pages. How about changing the color scheme? No problem, click Settings => Color Scheme and enjoy:

And a few more tips and tricks:

• Use the View menu to hide/show parts of the interface, such as the side bar.
• Double-click on the Message View area at the bottom of the main window to have it displayed as a separate window.
• If you use several ISPs to access the Internet, take a look at the Provider menu item. Once a connection through a certain ISP is activated, CommTraffic will start displaying the statistics pertaining to this provider. If you need data on a different provider, all you have to do is select its name in the Provider menu. If you are connected using a network card, the name of the card will be displayed as the ISP name. To obtain total statistics on all providers, select Providers => All.
• If you want to try different visual menu styles, press F12 in the ToolBox window to switch menu styles.
• Change the application font, start-up type, initial windows layout, and a few other options by selecting the Settings => Interface and Settings => System in the View pane.

Finally, one important consideration: CommTraffic monitors and analyzes network traffic using an invisible background application, CommTraffic Service. The visible part of the interface (we call it the CommTraffic console) displays the analyzed data, so you don't necessarily have to configure CommTraffic to show on Windows start up, as the application won't miss any data even if the console window is not loaded.
